Singer’s Fake Save Boca Law

SINGER INTRODUCES FAKE “SAVE BOCA” STYLE LAW

Singer recently introduced a fake "Save Boca" style law that intentionally mimics the Charter and Ordinance amendments of Save Boca. It’s called “Ordinance No. 5766” and it was introduced at the City Council meeting last night (Dec 16th).

Unlike the authentic Save Boca amendments that were certified by the clerk and backed by 12,900 signatures, Singer's proposed law does not vest the power over our public land and parks to the people.  Instead it still maintains the power over our parks and public land in the hands of the City Council.

Singer has set in motion a political maneuver to mislead the public that his law, which simply adds an additional hearing when public lands are set to be disposed by the Council and requires certain "written findings," will install a true safeguard.

The government campus project has made crystal clear to the citizens of Boca Raton that the control and power over our public land and parks needs to rest in our hands, the hands of the people. Save Boca recently filed with the court a “Writ of Mandamus” to compel the City of Boca Raton to perform the ministerial act to host the election so the people can vote and pass through the authentic Save Boca laws backed by 12,900 citizen signatures.

The Save Boca laws are constitutional and there are many cities in Florida that require a referendum prior to the sale and lease of public lands, such as the City of Fernandina Beach, the City of Clearwater, the City of St. Petersburg and the City of St. Pete Beach. Save Boca is confident that the lawsuit will be won and the people will soon be able to pass through the Save Boca laws to vest the power in the hands of the people over our parks, public land and oceanfront property.
