THE END OF BUSINESS AS USUAL AT CITY HALL

It’s not business as usual at City Hall anymore.  Transparency is being demanded on your behalf and the tough questions are getting asked.

This week, Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council--a consultant--was brought forward to the council to be hired for the planning of our city’s future and downtown, even though no true procurement process had taken place. It was also revealed that a City Council member and staff have ties to this consultant.

At the meeting, I demanded answers from this consultant pertaining to their significant involvement with Public Private Partnerships, the same vehicle that enabled developers to threaten our parks and public land this past year.

In response, the consultant revealed a blanket view that in their opinion all land development projects are public private partnerships.  Thereafter, the Save Boca-endorsed council members pivoted and supported a Request for Proposal (RFP) process instead.  This is a fully transparent process where competitive bids are submitted to the city from many different companies for selection.

Deputy Mayor Grau stated, “I feel that residents do not want council members or city staff connected in any way to the outside planning consultant hired by the city. They want a clean arms-length process with no appearance of insider influence or political entanglement.”

Save Boca began in response to decisions that were being made in the dark to bypass the residents and our best interests.  Now, thanks to you, accountability is being demanded every day at City Hall.  As the process continues, I intend to ensure that it will be fair and transparent, where your hard-earned tax dollars are prioritized.
