CITY HALL BUSINESS AS USUAL: RENEWED DISCUSSIONS SURFACE OF TOD ON 8 ACRES

City of Boca-sponsored discussions are still being had about a transit oriented development on the same 8 acres of public land that a record number of voters showed up on March 10th to vote against—by a 75% margin.

On April 22nd, less than a month and a half after the election, Councilwoman Drucker and senior members of city staff recently led a presentation in which the first item on the agenda was “Transit Oriented Development.”

The presentation, which originated from the offices of the City of Boca Raton, was given to local planners, engineers and other professionals and featured slides that depicted the 8 acres of public land adjacent to the Brightline--the same land targeted by Terra/Frisbie.

A slide from the City of Boca-sponsored presentation on April 22nd that featured continued discussions about a TOD on the 8 acres of public land targeted by Terra/Frisbie.

Further troubling is the fact that the recent RFQ for downtown improvements drawn up by city staff does not include these 8 acres and only includes improvements to the 17 acres to the west of NW 2nd Ave.  Why are these 8 acres being “shelved” from the scope of upcoming improvements?

WILL ANOTHER TRANSIT ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH RISES BE TARGETED ON THIS PUBLIC LAND?

This week was a significant step in the fight to protect our city’s future, as the Save Boca ordinance was passed into law and the charter will be put to voters at the next possible election.  However, as evidenced by what has surfaced we must continue to hold their feet to the fire and cannot let up.  Thank you for caring deeply about our community and your continued support to Save Boca.
