From Voting to Bulldoze Memorial Park to “Preserving it Forever”: Marc Wigder’s Political Ploy

Marc Wigder has been a consistent and unwavering "yes" vote on the government campus project, including the primary plan of the first 9 months of the year that involved bulldozing Memorial Park and privatizing it.  In a recent Sun Sentinel article displaying a photo of the plan where Memorial Park was still set to be bulldozed and privatized, Marc Wigder doubled down on his support.

The title of Wigder’s article was “Government campus redevelopment is the right investment for Boca” and he wrote about his continued support to move the plan forward.  “Saying no is not going to Save Boca,” he wrote and stated “Boca Raton’s civic dialogue should not be consumed by 30 acres.”

Despite always and consistently voting yes on the original plan that included bulldozing Memorial Park, Wigder, in the ultimate political ploy, recently presented an idea that he came up with to create a “Memorial Park Land Trust” to “preserve it forever.”

Marc Wigder doubled down on his support of the Terra/Frisbie plan in a recent Sun Sentinel article, that displayed a photo of an iteration where Memorial Park was still set to be bulldozed and privatized.

A slide from Marc Wigder's November 4th presentation, where he presented a plan that he came up with to "preserve" Memorial Park "forever."

After Wigder gave the presentation on November 4th, Save Boca Founder Jon Pearlman—Wigder’s opponent in the upcoming City Council Election for Seat B—pointed out the contradiction of Wigder's proposal and reminded him that Save Boca saved Memorial Park and that he voted to bulldoze it.  Pearlman also noted that Wigder would likely attempt to go after other parks and Boca's oceanfront property without the Save Boca charter and ordinance amendments in place to protect Boca's public land.

Save Boca Founder Jon Pearlman is running for City Council Seat B in the upcoming election on March 10th.  If elected, he will fight every day for the best interests of the citizens as he has been with Save Boca and will protect our parks, public land and secure the brightest future and highest quality of life for our city.
